al-Sabr ‘Ala al-Maradh - You should be patient during illness. Verily there is a good example in Ayyub a who was afflicted with the worst of illnesses and Allah says,

“Verily, We found him full of patience in adversity: how excellent a servant [of Ours], who, behold, would always turn unto Us!” al-Qur’an, Surah Saad, 38: 44

And,

“It is not al-Birr that you turn your faces towards east and (or) west; but al-Birr is (the quality of) the one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the Angels, the Book, the Prophets and gives his wealth, in spite of love for it, to the kinsfolk, to the orphans, and to al-Masaakeen (the poor), and to the wayfarer, and to those who ask, and to set slaves free, performs As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and gives the Zakat, and who fulfil their covenant when they make it, and who are As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.) in extreme poverty and ailment (disease) and at the time of fighting (during the battles). Such are the people of the truth and they are AlMuttaqoon.” al-Qur’an, Surah al-Baqarah, 2: 177

If we are patient in our illness, then there is great reward, Abdullah Ibn Mas'ood (ra) narrated that,

"I visited Allah's Apostle while he was suffering from a high fever. I touched him with my hand and said, "O Allah's Apostle! You have a high fever." Allah's Apostle said, "Yes, I have as much fever as two men of you have." I said, "Is it because you will get a double reward?" Allah' worksheet-container Apostle said, "Yes, no Muslim is afflicted with harm because of sickness or some other inconvenience, but that Allah will remove his sins for him as a tree sheds its leaves (as long as he is patient)."
